Hitch Hikers moved about a block and became Hot Shots. This worked out pretty nice when I managed to miss the bus and had to walk home from school just slip in, drop a couple quarters on the counter, hide in the arcade, and pick up a cold one when the bartender wasn't looking. There was a place on Westheimer near Dairy Ashford called Hitch Hikers that had 50-cent beers on some random weekday afternoon. Pool Halls were my big thing, and Slick Willie's just cost too much. There, I personally consumed 2.4% of the world's beer supply. Haven't read the whole thread, but I'm sure that place on Richmond at 610 has been mentioned, the 3-clubs in one, was it called Wild West?Īl's Sports Bar out Westheimer (a mile + Hwy 6) was originally 'Al's #2' the first was on Dairy Ashford near Westpark Road, long before the Westpark Tollway was even an idea. anyone remember the places across the street, 'Mausoleum' and some pizza place? I'd wager 'Roxy' is still around, although it was just too loud and trendy for me. Numbers I'm sure is still around it was well established by the time I was old enough to drive and I'm an old fart. Surf-Side Sally's, Westheimer Gessner was the shiz-nit, 'til it became '8-Mile' and however many Ghetto places. Polly-Esthers (?) on Dairy Ashford was a fairly regular hangout while it was there (and half a mile from home, at the time). Wowzers!! Sure begs for a long-winded answer.
